38 weeks pregnant with high blood pressure and they found Ketones in my urine?
I went to the doctor today, and after a picture perfect pregnancy, the doctor told me my blood pressure had gone up (not an unfamiliar condition to me, this is my second baby and I had preeclampsia with the first so bad the labor had to be induced) but when they did the urine test, they also found Ketones in my urine. For those unfamiliar with ketones, they are proteins which feed on muscle, usually due to starvation or uncontrolled diabetes. I eat VERY well, and I don’t have diabetes, or gestational diabetes. My question is, why are they showing up? Could it have something to do with the blood pressure? Has anyone else had this problem or similar? Have I done something wrong? How can I make them go away? I go back to the Doctor Tuesday, and if I don’t go into labor before then he will probably induce. Will that cure the problem?

I’m not very sure of this but you can check it out from net.
There’s a type of diabetes melitus that might develop in pregnant women, fortunately it’ll subside after labour.
And diabetic patient in a very serious matter can develop ketosis. As your glucose is not accessible for your cells (due to lack or desensitizing of insulin), means that you’re virtually starving your cells, another form of energy will come into service, fat. Fat (fatty acids chain from triglycerides) will then breakdown to numerous 2-carbon substances called acetyl-CoA via beta oxidation, this breakdown of fat mostly will occur in liver.
Acetyl-CoA formed however is immobile and limited within cell, so your liver needs to transport the formed acetyl-CoA to the other tissues, via converting it to the soluble form, ketone (acetoacetate specifically). ketone can be utilized by various cells (even those without mitochondria, "energy generator" of cell) by reversing the pathway to form acetyl-CoA after they receive the ketone from blood stream.
increased ketone synthesis means your body actually starves, even thought you really eat well. take my answers as a reference and consult your GP, he/she can tell you more out of the diagnostic lab report.
take care, and good luck
Your body normally goes into keytosis when your blood sugar is low. It’s usually caused by lack of carbohydrates.Try eating more fruit. These contain good carbs for the baby.
Have you been stressed lately? Stress has been a cause of many problems during pregnency, especially hemmroids. It might also be the reason that your body is forming ketones.
ketones are usually found in your urine when you are developing kidney stones! It could be they are showing up because of the high blood pressure but only because perhaps its causing preeclampsia again. Preeclampsia can cause kidney problems so….that could definetly be what it is! theres nothing you can really do. Drink lots and lots of water…but they tell you to do that anyways! Cranberry juice can actually make them worse so..i would avoid that!!! (my mom has the same problems so…this is where im getting all this from. haha)
Good luck and once you get induced it should help them go away! Congrats on your baby!!! Sounds like it will be here soon!
Well hun I’m not real sure so don’t let me pretend to know I just saw the first comment and had to say that if it were extremely harmful to the baby it would be an emergency and they would have induced immediately so……. thats the good point right and you’re bundle will be here any day !! Congrats to you and you are lucky to ahve had a picture perfect pregnancy thus far right? I’m willing to bet the keytones will go away ”clear up” when you have the baby god bless you and the miracle you are about to give birth to!! I’ll say a little prayer to ease you’re mind I’d be worried too but it will be ok!!
eat more carbs, your body starts making ketones about 6 hrs after you havent eaten, and when you start eating right your body will destroy them.
i am 30 weeks, and found myself in the hospital sunday night. they said i had ketones also, from being dehydrated. i had the flu, and couldnt kep anyhin g down. otherwise, no diabetes or preeclampsia. good luck
Well, you say no diabetes, and you ARE eating enough. That leaves pretty much 1 thing left: Sometimes you can get ketones if you aren’t drinking enough water. So maybe try drinking more water to clear up the problem. And if it is a case of needing more water, the ketones should go away very quickly.
