Beta blocker atenolol and albuterol — OK to take?
I went to a local minor-emergency clinic (not my primary physician who normally handles my blood pressure treatment–it was in the evening and I was feeling really crummy) last night for a bad cold that I had for about a week, started out like a sinus/allergy thing but the last few days turned into a sneezing and coughing up yellow mucus type of event, so I went for an exam and they said I had a case of bronchitis.
Was prescribed albuterol inhaler for the bronchitis, but now I read on the internet that maybe sometimes it’s not best to take these two drugs together? Atenolol is for high blood pressure in my case. I gave my list of medications to the doctor I saw last night, any chance they could have overlooked that? Or is it common and effective to take these two drugs together?

Well I’m no druggist,,, will you settle for a physician? I hope so ‘cuz I have had a lively interest in pharmacology for >30 years.
Albuterol and Atenolol are perfectly safe together and compatible at recommended doses.
Atenolol is a beta blocker, a descendant of non-specific beta blockers like propranalol which *were* somewhat antagonistic to the bronchodilator drugs like albuterol.
Nowadays beta blockers are more "cardio-selective": they do not cause significant bronchodilation. Atenolol is one such agent, and a good medicine. Hell, I take it myself.
No worries… you just can’t believe everything you "read on the internet" !
