since youre on both of them, there is a reason. i am sure it is because your hypertension (high blood pressure) was refractory to the lisinopril alone. often patients are on several blood pressure medications because they all work in different ways to decrease the blood pressure and have additive effects. it seems like you had some questions that you didn’t ask your physician. next visit would be a good time to address your concerns, but rest assured, a physician wouldn’t give you a drug that wasn’t safe for your age. in fact, the earlier you manage your blood pressure the longer your life will be. lisinopril may cause a cough and amlodipine can cause swelling, flushing, headaches, dizziness or palpatations. if you get any side effects you can discuss them with your physician and find the right combination of drugs to work on you.
That would be a good question for your doctor.

I take innopran, I started at 29 and it works great for me, maybe ask your doctor about innopran.
Both are very good meds. The norvasc[amlodipine] is one that i took for quite awhile and it works fine the lisinopril caused me to have a tickley cough. My grandson is on that too as he is overweight and has high blood pressure so it works fine for kids too…I now am on cheaper meds as i couldnt afford those…
Lisinopril is a very effective blood pressure medicine. It is an ACE Inhibitor. Some also combine with a diuretic (Lisinopril-Hydrochlorothiazide)
Amlodipine is also very good and is a Calcium Channel Blocker.
The main differences are that Amlodipine is more expensive than Lisinopril, but one of the possible side effects with Lisinopril in some people is a cough. (Lisinopril Cough) It goes away if you stop taking the drug, but some people find it impossible to live with.
I would first try the Lisinopril and if no cough develops, you will like the low price.
These are 2 different types of blood pressure meds. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker thats is long acting. Lisinopril is angiotensin converting enzyhme inhibitor. I have seen lisinopril given along with other antihypertensive drugs. Amlodipine is a good drug. It also depends on other health factors as well. Lisinopril is commonly given in the beginning to see if it helps. Amlodipine is more of a long term treatment if your blood pressure is still elevated during lisinopril treatment. Good luck
Normal blood pressure level is defined as less than 130 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) for systolic blood pressure and less than 85 mm Hg for diastolic blood pressure. The higher the blood pressure, the more likely it is to take a toll on the heart and on the brain. Blood pressure should be checked whether or not your levels are high. For normal, check once every two years. For high-normal, check once a year. If extremely high, you should get immediate care. Then get multiple measurements to know if a high level is sustained over time. http://www.theheartdiseases.com
