Your mom’s blood pressure is concerning. The scariest thing about hypertension (high BP) is that it is known as the "Silent Disease/Killer," because many times there are no symptoms. Some people get headaches, but for others – no symptoms at all. They will feel fine. Hyptension and Diabetes put your mom at risk for a stroke, heart attack, and other organ damage, like the kidneys. The good news: You can really help her by controlling high blood pressure with diet, exercise, and medications, controlling blood sugars with medications and lifestyle changes, and controlling high cholesterol with diet, exercise, and drugs that will help lower cholesterol. Really encourage your mom to do these things, and to see her MD immediatley.
A reading of 170/110 is high blood pressure. She should be seeing her doctor real soon to get on an antihypertensive medication.
