Can't persuade myself to go to doctor's office for blood pressure . . . tips?
When I went to a ‘doc in a box’ at a grocery store due to a persistent cough, my blood pressure they said was very high, and they wanted me to go in for a check-up with a regular doctor.
But, I can’t convince myself to go, despite some family history of high blood pressure. Basically, I know what the doctor will say already – change your diet, lose weight, reduce stress, all of which I already know and have always failed to fix. And, he will want to sell me expensive medicine. So, I can’t get myself to go, why bother when you know the answer, but can’t live up to the cure, emotionally or financially? Maybe I die earlier than I need to, but that doesn’t bother me, I look at how old people live and don’t see anything I envy. What am I missing here?

I have a tendency toward high blood pressure too. Dying young wouldn’t be fun, but it would be even worse to live on after a stroke, I think.
Cutting back on caffeine helped me some. I was taking a whole lot of it before.
The diet thing is hard…salt is in everything! It takes reconditioning my whole brain toward eating right. I have to get back to eating better too.
There is a diet for high blood pressure called the D.A.S.H. diet. It isn’t too bad.
please pleas eplease just go. you may not need expensive medicine. or just go to walmart and have your blood test automaticly by that machine
Go to you doctor….or just die. Its really up too you
If you already know what the doctor is going to tell you – why don’t you just get a head start on him? No smoking, no beer/ale, no booze, no drugs, no junk food, no fast food garbage. Get on a good, healthy, balanced diet including plenty of boiled or steamed vegetables. Drink plenty of water, fruit juices & fat free milk. Snack on lots of RAW fruit & veggies. Make sure you eat a good, balanced breakfast daily. You get your energy for the day from your breakfast meal. Get up one hour early every morning & take a BRISK 30 minute walk – then – do the same thing again in the evening after dinner. You really don’t need to go on a ‘diet’ – just change your eating habits. I lost 25 pounds in 3 months doing this & my BP dropped to an acceptable level. Life is not always the way it’s supposed to be. It’s just the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
