Does Blood Pressure medication always work ?
I work with a lady who has had high blood pressure for years. Last week, she had, what they diagnosed as Bells Palsy – and per her on medication for her high blood pressure. Today our boss took her blood pressure and it is 160/100. I’d be running to a doctor – what do you think ?

No medication always works. But generally it works for a large portion of those who use it.
160/100 is not life threatening. She needs to follow her dr’s orders, continue her medication and follow up on treatment.
Medication is not a magic bullet, it takes time, tweaking, dietary and lifestyle changes to work optimally.

I am living proof that it doesn’t always work. I had to try 4 different medications before they found one that worked. Each person is different and their body is going to react a different way.
The Bells Palsy is not related to her high blood pressure. And she may need to have her dose or medication changed.
There is no such thing as a medicine that works 100% of the time. It may help a little, but it usually only treats the symptoms temporarily. Thats why you have to take it everyday. 160 is pretty high. She obviously isn’t getting the right dosage or the right type of medication. She should be re-evaluated or get a second opinion from another doctor. Or, who knows, maybe she forgot to take her medicine that day.

She deinitely needs to check with her doctor. If he put her on this last week–he should be monitoring the BP. Yes, I think she should definitely call him. Also my doctor will charge nothing for a patient to go into the office and have a nurse to check the BP.–no appointment.
Depends on the drug as to how quickly it works and how long before a blood level is reached. My one BP medicine works in less than 6 hours. Each one would be different. Type in the name of her drug into the net search–and look it up–how quickly the blood level is reached.
while pregnant i had high blood pressure, my first lot of medication didn’t work so i tried another and it started lowering my bp within two days. my advise is to follow dr’s orders and persevere.
