Given the formula: P(t) = 101+24cos(9pi/4t)?
A person’s blood pressure changes in rhythmic fashion, with a periodicity set by the beating of the heart. Suppose a person’s blood pressure P in mm off mercury at time t (seconds) is given by the formula above.
a) Find the period of the function T
b) Find the number of heartbeat(cycles) per minute.
c) Find the maximum and minimum blood pressure

a) Since the coefficient of t is 9pi/4, the period of the function P is 2pi / (9pi/4) = 8/9
b) If the period of the function is 8/9, that means it repeats every 8/9 seconds. So in 60 seconds there are 60/(8/9) = 67.5 beats.
c) Since cos has a max of 1 and a min of -1, the max value of P is 101+24 = 125, and the min value of P is 101-24 = 77.
