High blood pressure and vegetarianism?
am 45. Fruitarian-Rawfoodist , 150 for 6.2. I was on 2 blood pressure medications for a few years but because of my diet & weight loss , my blood pressure dropped to 100/65 and I almost passed out. I was told to stop the medications then resume when it get to 140/80. I don’t wish to resume my meds but I would like to try an alternative treatment. I purchased some hawthorn berry pills. So far it has reduce my heart beats from 95 to 80 but in order to reduce my BP how many should I take? I only take 1 per day. My BP is now between 125/83 to 145/98 during the day. Thanks

I find the more I exercise, the better my blood pressure becomes. I saw in another question that you drink hemp milk. I’m not sure how often you do it, but do know that the omega-3’s in there can improve your blood vessel function.
According to the fourth edition of Prescription For Natural Healing by Phyllis A. Balch, CNC:
1500-3000mg calcium daily: deficiencies have been linked to high blood pressure
750-1000mg magnesium daily: same as calcium
Potassium (as directed on label): take extra potassium if you take cortisone or blood pressure medication, as it depletes this mineral
CoQ10 + Coenzyme A by Coenzyme A Technologies (take as directed on label): CoQ10 improves heart function, while CoA works with CoQ10 to support immune system’s detoxification of many dangerous substances.
Essential fatty acids (as directed on label…stick with your hemp milk): Important for circulation and lowering blood pressure
2 capsules 3x a day of garlic (try Kyolic from Wakunaga): effective in lowering blood pressure
L-Arginine (as directed): Plays important role in heart health by lowering BP and cholesterol levels
500mg 2x a day of L-Carnintine on an empty stomach: Transports long fatty acid chains. Works with L-Glutamic acid and L-Glutamine to prevent heart disease
500mg 2x a day of both L-Glutamic Acid and L-Glutamine, don’t take with milk, but do take on an empty stomach with 50mg B6 and 100mg vitamin C for better absorption: works to detox ammonia and prevent heart disease
200mcg daily of Selenium: Deficiency has been linked to heart disease
100IU daily for 1st month, then 200IU daily after that or Vitamin E with Octacosanol as directed on label: Improves heart function. Vit. E also works as a blood-thinning agent, use with caution if you’re taking blood-thinners. Use d-alpha-tocopherol form. Use emulsion for form easier assimilation and greater safety in high doses.
You don’t have to take ALL of those at once, but you can.
Blood pressure is directly related to the fat and salt in your bloodstream. I had no idea what you are eating now, but I assume you are not consuming such things anymore. If you are, well, cut out all animal fats and processed unnatural salt. Get lots of exercise. Drink lots of water. And get off those meds. if you can.
You are correct that the Hawthorne berry is widely used to treat High Blood Pressure .
So I think you have made a good choice . Below is the recommended dosage . Check the MG on the tablet/pill you are taking .
Dosage can range from 25 mg up to 300 mg per tablet or capsule. Those people who fall into the risk group for heart disease may wish to take at least " 100 mg " of Hawthorne berry daily. I would say start with 100 Mg and see how you feel and how your levels are.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS ALTHOUGH RARE: watch out if you develop any of the symptoms ..
Potential side effects are rare, and usually superficial in nature. For some, these include nausea, sweating, and fatigue. In addition, those individuals who are not afflicted with any heart condition may experience a significant drop in blood pressure if very large doses of Hawthorne berry are consumed. Other than these considerations, it is generally seen as one of the safest herbal remedies on the market.
In addition to the Hawthorn Berry you might want to ad more Garlic to your diet and Folic acid ( found in Lentils, Asparagus, Spinach, Black Beans , Peanuts , OJ, Romaine lettuce , and Broccoli ) Both of these have been directly related ( in many studies) to lowering High Blood pressure . Do not overdo them ..just add some extra to your diet
I have had friends who used the above and along with Diet have been able to keep their Pressure in check .They used to be on pills .
Asparagus will also help rid your body of excess water . If you can drink a glass of tea before bed , it will help too ..
Last I agree if you can add some exercise or even a daily walk would help
Hope this helped

Vegan Forever
I’m going to agree with Hannibal.
Exercise is a great way to control blood pressure. I’m vegan and I donated blood on Monday. The health screener took my pulse (62) and recorded my BP as 110/64. that’s actually sort of high for me. I’m usually in the 100/62 range.
At any rate, her first question to me was, "Do you exercise a lot?" To which I replied, "Yes!"
Granted, I lift weights and do heavy cardio, but I also practice yoga and pilates. The latter are two wonderful forms of exercise that relax the body, lengthen the muscles and have been found to lower the blood pressure.
I’m not an M.D. and I’m not about to tell you how many pills you should take per day. But I will suggest that you add more/ more forms of exercise into your routine to see if it might help.
