I have Addison’s Disease but have not begun treatment yet and my heart is becoming weak, will it recover?
I was just diagnosed with Addison’s Disease (Adrenal insufficiency) and my biggest problem is that my heart has become rather weak as a result of going undiagnosed for years. I really don’t trust any of my doctors to give me a straight answer so that is why I am asking here. I had a normal echo recently, but my heartbeat and pulses are weak and my blood pressure averages 95/60 ish and getting lower as I have gotten sicker. When they start me on the hydrocortisone and florinef and all that can my heart become strong again?
I was just diagnosed two days ago and they want to do some more test to check for tuberculosis before they give me the treatment. And to answer about my distrust in doctors, well I saw about 50 different doctors since I fell ill and not one of them was able to figure out what was wrong with me until I met my endocrinologist. Over the last year I was misdiagnosed with DEPRESSION, GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER, CONVERSION DISORDER, IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME, MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE SYNDROME, SOMATIZATION DISORDER, HYPOCHONDRIASIS…….WOW!
That is why I do not trust doctors, because not one of them even considered that I may be experiencing Adrenal failure. This includes 3 hospitalizations this year where "no one can figure out what is wrong" took place. Turns out I was having Addisonian Crisis symptoms all 3 times. They had THREE times to figure it out. My blood work showed: Elevated Potassium and BUN. Lowered Sodium and Chloride. I had a resting heart rate of 120. Smart guys….

You are experiencing the symptoms of Addison’s disease. If you echo cardiogram is okay, then most likely you heart is just fine. I am curious as to why the medication has not been started yet. The sooner it is started the sooner you will get better.
Curiously why don’t you trust your doctor? Is this a problem you have with all doctors or just one in particular? If you don
t trust any doctors then the problem is you, not the doctor. If it is just the doctor that is currently treating you, change doctors.
Low BP very much goes hand-in-hand with Addison’s Disease. Since you recently had a normal echo, I don’t think I’d worry about weaker heartbeat and BP. Once you begin therapy (hydrocortisone and florinef), you’re BP should stabilize. My advice would be to find a GOOD Endocrinologist, whom you feel comfortable with, and work on your treatment together. Addison’s Disease is definitely not an easy disease to diagnose/treat, since there are no magic levels to attain. It’s a trial and error scenario. I’ve been diagnosed for exactly 10 months today, and am feeling better than I had in long time. Be sure to ask your Endo questions about your lowered immunity and when to up your doses of hydrocortisone. Good luck!
ive had it for a few years now have got better and hav now done alot of exersize in the last year now do boxing 1 hour 3 times aweek and circit training for an hour 2 times a week as fit if not fitter than other people training at gym taking to boxing very well and hope addisons wont stop me fighting in amature fights havent check yet dont wont to find out untill im ready for the ring but recomend some sort of fittness program for anyone with addisons as apart from taking the tabs feel no different from when i didnt have it infact i feel alot fitter and stronger than i was before my sparring partner that i neerly k.o ed last night would agree with that dont let it get u down you will get better
