Low blood pressure…..anyway to treat it?
I’ve a blood pressure ranging between 90/50 and 95/54 and my heart beat rate is 44-49 ish (If that matters!).
I get dizzy whenever I stand up or sit down, making any sudden movements as well, plus headaches!!
I do drink a lot of water and coffee to raise my blood pressure but it’s not working, any other treatments that could work besides medication?
Oh and I’ve been tying to take vitamins but again….no use!!
Thanks in advance!!
Lucy: Yeah, I’m sure……I’ve been taking regular readings and it’s always in the same range, I’ll make sure to visit the doctor as soon as I can.
And I’ve been trying to increase the salt intake but it’s not making any difference!!
Thanks =)

I know it’s been said before, but I wouldn’t take chances with something like this. I’d definitely see a doctor.
First of all, you need to make sure you’re not bleeding internally and/or have anemia or any number of issues that can cause it. A low red blood cell count can cause the symptoms you are describing, so don’t assume it’s the blood pressure. If everything is normal, then it’s something you most likely have to learn to live with. Doctors don’t normally prescribe anything to raise your blood pressure because the side effects will outweigh the inconvenience and can cause problems for you. I also have BP that’s on the low side, and my doctor told me to count my blessings even though it’s a pain to deal with – the opposite is extremely damaging. You really need to go to the doctor and have a physical to rule out anything serious.
My blood pressure ranges from normal to low, so I feel your pain. Your doctor can prescribe meds if the condition warrants it, but you can also try increasing the salt a bit in your diet if they feel you should manage it without drugs. Smaller, more frequent meals can also help with sharp pressure drops.
And be careful with caffeine. It can temporarily raise your BP, but can cause other problems.
Coffeebeans bombard a strawberry,
Please go see a doctor.
This is a very serious situation you are dealing with and self medicating. Im a med student that enjoys answering questions on yahoo. Please seek help.
I wish you well!
Hey
Well, I think you should go see a doctor first off…as that’s always the safest thing to do! Are you sure it’s low blood pressure? Feeling dizzy when you stand up, sit down, etc can be a sign of other things such as orthostatic hypotension. That’s basically when your blood pressure falls suddenly when you stand up [it can leave you feeling like you describe you feel] as opposed to constant low pressure…and the doctors can detect this easily so sometimes it’s better just to pay them a visit.
I’m pretty sure caffeine does raise your blood pressure [or at least contribute towards it getting higher somewhat] but then too much caffeine can be really bad for you…you kinda can’t win!
My best advice…go visit the doctor!!!
** good plan!
