New born cries when not eating or sleeping why?
This is our history.I was induced at 39 weeks because Dr was worried about my blood pressure. Dr used a vacume which some how I was not aware of that during labor . I had an epidural . When he was finally born he had a bubble on his head fron the vacume. So when they gave him to me I was breast feeding. He cried a cry that sounded like pain because of his sore head. The next day in the hospital they said he had jaundice and it was high for a new born and he was in nicu for 5 days. First his jaundice would not go down, they told me to supplement, then stop breast feeding for 24 hours,he had and iv, and it still went up.Finally on 6th day of his life he got to go home. His billi was finally going down on its own.I continued breast feeding, but he was not satisfied. In the hospital they were giving him 3 ounces.I still do not know if that much ids ok for a new born. How much do they eat? I only understand breast feeding is for 30 to 40 mins.So He still wanted more,he eats formula not satisfied.
I mean to say he eats formula , enfamile, for fussy babies, and just hours ago I tried the one thickened with rice starch for babies who spt up. I burp him, hold him , change his diaper, and he cries allot.still.Why does he still cry.He is my second and I have a toddler and it is making life more difficult. My husband looks and acts very annoyed when he cries, and says he cries too much. What could be wrong if there is something wrong, how can i help him feel better to stop crying so much.

Sounds Colic . . . read up about Collicy babies and see if his symptoms match. There is plenty of literature on that.
How high was his bili count? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a woman being told not to breastfeed her baby because of jaundice. Jaundice is normal in newborns and more common in breastfed newborns. Supplementing formula just undermines your efforts at breastfeeding.
If you intend to breastfeed, you need to nurse on demand every few hours and I wouldn’t nurse more than 20-30 minutes at a time (10-15 minutes on each side). Nursing more frequently for shorter intervals will encourage more milk production whereas nursing less frequently but for longer periods of time just leads to sore nipples and achey breasts (in my experience).
My guess would be that with the switching back and forth between breastmilk and formula, your little one’s stomach is upset. Cut the formula out of the equation and stick to breastmilk only. It’s much, much easier on baby’s stomach and better for him (better for you, too). The more you nurse him, the more you’ll produce so don’t get discouraged.
You should try some gripe water. I t is all natural and it is or gassy, colliky, ect. I use it sometimes when my baby gets fuddy and it works wonders. Baby might have reflux or something. They sell it at target and babies r us for about $10.
With that kind of traumatic birth it wouldn’t be surprising if he was in some kind of pain. Try taking him to a Cranial Osteopath; they can work wonders..
Try adding a little bit of rice cereal to breast milk or formula in a bottle. He may just want some substance to his feedings. And always feed him until he’s full… even if it means preparing more than he actually eats. If he regularly downs 3 oz and still cries, bump it up to 5 oz and see how much he takes. Always make sure his diaper is on comfortably and he’s not dressed in something itchy or scratchy (cut off tags in his clothes). Always comfort him and cuddle him. Using a vacuum or forceps is a common practice used in delivery. It’s not unusual for the head to be a little misshapen. Even if they didn’t use the vacuum, skull is still not fully hardened and can become "cone shaped" from a normal delivery.
Maybe he is gassy? You should try giving him gas drops after each feeding. Most gas drops say that they are safe to give after each time the baby is fed… just make sure and check that on the brand of gas drops you have. Our son is extremely gassy and fussy.. we give him gas drops religiously after each of his feedings and it has helped him soooo much. Good luck, I know it’s tough!
I had a fantastic nursing sister visit each week after bringing my baby home. She said babies eat when they feel like it…may be just for a just couple of minutes then they drop off to sleep. Then within minutes/hours they wake up after their nap, ready to go again. She said when they are a well and healthy baby – it’s either food or a nappy change. Don’t worry about the time intervals or whether it’s a long or short feed! My little one grew leaps and bounds and was very contented. Even better, the nurse said it’s not a big deal to burp them, though I always did…it’s so lovely to hold them in your arms and pat them gently on the back.
Enjoy your baby – if he or she is sick the screaming won’t stop!!
