First of all I NEVER go to the doctor but I get a routine physical each year. Last December 4th I had been sick for 2 weeks with a bad cough and bronchitis-like symptoms. I finally was told go to doctor by my concerned employer because they felt there might be MOLD in our office. I went that very day to my DR. of two years and he did chest xray and prescribed antibiotic. That treatment worked and I also found there was no MOLD. More than a week later the DR. contacted me to come in for treatment of high blood pressure recorded during the Dec 4 visit. By the time I was called I was recovered and did not have high BP and declined to see the DR. for this again. He wrote on Feb. 18th he had discharged me as his patient due to ‘non-compliance’. I ask you, why did he not treat the high blood pressure the moment I was in distress???? And why dismiss me now, as I do NOT have High BP.
I ran out of room on the first detail. To answer the question I know I do NOT have HP because my husband does and we both monitor our BP. I do it with a separate cuff to encourage him. That is coincidental to my situation too and I wanted to add it. My husband’s BP is 100% under control through medication due to his work, which like my employer require yearly physical. Thanks.
As I said, this DR. did not even address my BP at time of visit. Where was the concern then? I was taking 3 different OTC medicatations: Dayquil, Nyquil, Robitussin by the time I was seen and those were making me sick at my stomach and I coudnt take it anymore. Thanks.
Marco, you are so right. And this non-compliance issue is my concern too. Will I be able to find another physician? This whole situation is crazy. I mean I didn’t accuse him of anything or ask questions until the ‘non-compliance’ issue came up. I didn’t even know what non-compliance was and had to ask. Thanks.
Mom, I declined the offer to return is what happened and it was over the phone where the nurse called me later. I guess I should have gone, in hindsight, and would have if I reazlied he could dismiss me. It all seems very unfortunate. Thanks.

I know there are a lot of options, I have insurance, but I’m trying to anticipate the impact on my budget! What do you pay for the meds? Do you know what they cost?

Lifestyle change is not an option for treatment. Not overweight, good diet, gym workout daily, treadmill 4+ miles daily, cholesterol, sodium, potassium levels fine. It’s genetic, so meds are the option. I’m averaging 148/100, peaking at 168/110.

Bums me out because I’m been 115/70 forever. This symptoms just started a couple of months ago but I did not see a doc until last week. High bp never occurred to me!

My PCP Dr is a real Drama Queen. My BP is 126/78 and cholesterol 208. He insisted that I go on medicine for both. He put me on 20 mgs of Lisinopril for the BP and 10 mgs of Zocor for cholesterol.
I’ve been taking this garbage for 2 months now and I have never felt so god-awful in my entire life.
When I stand up I almost faint I’m so dizzy (I’m scared to drive anymore for fear I’ll pass out behind the wheel.) My muscles ache all the time, I’m nauseated and feel like I have the flu 24/7. I’ve told him this twice in the past two months and he keeps saying to stay on the medication and that I’ll get "used to it."
I went to see a cardiologist for a second opinion and he said that he wouldn’t have gone to such an aggressive treatment for BP and cholesterol that are just slightly over what they should be.
I’m not overweight, I eat healthy (very little if any red meat,) excerise, don’t drink or smoke.
PS. Heart disease, High BP or Cholesterol do not run in my family. Cancer and bipolar disorder do.
due to feeling sick all the time, my depression level is very high. I have a good mind just to throw all this stuff away and never take it again. Go back to feeling like a human being again.

I have gout and high blood pressure. I take Diova 160/25 and Norvasec for BP and Alopurinol for gout. I get swelling in the legs. My doctors can’t fix this problem. When they change the drugs or doze my blood pressure goes up and I get gout attack….anyone out there who has my problem?

am 46 , I am 153(I use to be 190) I am 6.2. I always had high blood pressure(since the age of 16) and it was always emotional high blood pressure. I started taking BP medication about 8 years ago. Now I am on 2 medications Coreg 12.5 per day & Benicar 40mg per day. I switched to a Fruitarian Rwafoodist diet and my readings got mucfh better. Last week my readings dropped to 100/62. At work I had an icident and the paramedics came. My doctor told me to stop both medications right away and resume when my BP is normal. Do I really need to resume? What are my options here? Thanks
It has been 4 days and my BP average 115/82(without meds).
I have been on my Fruitarian-Rawfoodist diet for about 1 year 1/2

I have no cardio problem except that I am emotional that’s why Coreg
In case my BP comes back to normal /bordeline range I was thinking going for hawthorn berries?

PS: I almost got into a cardio arrest because of those 2 meds at work. So plz telling me to talk to my doc first won’t improve things. My diet profile has totally changed as well as my weight . I use to be 190 when I started the treatment.

am 45. Fruitarian-Rawfoodist , 150 for 6.2. I was on 2 blood pressure medications for a few years but because of my diet & weight loss , my blood pressure dropped to 100/65 and I almost passed out. I was told to stop the medications then resume when it get to 140/80. I don’t wish to resume my meds but I would like to try an alternative treatment. I purchased some hawthorn berry pills. So far it has reduce my heart beats from 95 to 80 but in order to reduce my BP how many should I take? I only take 1 per day. My BP is now between 125/83 to 145/98 during the day. Thanks

Hello and Thanks to all of you in advance:

Today, I was at a clinic going through initial screens for testing (as a volunteer "guinea pig") for a new pharmaceutical treatment. Part of the initial screens was a blood pressure test which must fit within tight parameters. What happened kind of stunned me, since I’ve never witnessed my body respond this way before, and I’m wondering why and if I need to be concerned about anything.

Previous to this screen, the protocol required that we not consume any caffeine or alcohol products for three days and also to fast for 10 hours previous to the screen, which I observed to the letter. I also do not use any drugs and do not smoke. Nor do I drink. I do exercise faithfully, but have not for the past couple days. I did take a multi-vitamin the day before (yesterday). No prescription meds, though.

I went into the screen very relaxed, having a full night’s sleep; not under any stress, etc. Good to go, so I thought.

However, for some VERY curious reason, when it came time for my blood pressure test, the readings fluctuated very significantly, and I’ve never witnessed such wide divergences in my life. Granted, I know that blood pressure readings will fluctuate every time you take them. And I normally have blood pressure results within the healthy range, or worst case, the "pre-hypertension" range (I am 52 and in good health).

However, this morning, the guy tested me 6 times (he was being kind – they’re only supposed to test once), and each time my BP fluctuated through what I thought was a wild range, both for systolic and diastolic measures. Each time, the BP readings for either side – systolic and diastolic – would go up or down in a range of 10-20 points!! Normally, the BP does not fluctuate that much (to the best of my knowledge, but that’s why I’m asking the community). And the weird thing was, I was totally relaxed, trying to meditate, etc., to get my BP in the range. It was always ONE number off; and, what was weird, is that one reading would show a leap on one side (say, diastolic) and a concomitant FALL in the other (systolic). Each reading showed both sides fluctuating like a teeter-totter; one up; the other down – like I said, in that 10-20 point wide range.

Does anyone out there have a clue as to why this kind of reading would show up like this? And need I be concerned about anything? Like I said, normally, when my BP is checked (at the Doctor, or wherever – even those free machines at Wal-Mart); the readings are fairly "normal."

This time, systolic was fluctuating between 120 and 140; and diastolic between about 72 and 93 – like a see-saw.

Thanks again for your help and ideas.

Okay so I’m 26 weeks pregnant when I went for my 20 week check up, I was 21 weeks and my blood pressure was high. This is my second pregnancy, with my first pregnancy 3.5 years ago I had twins and had blood pressure problems that later ended up with me being delivered due to pre-E but my blood pressure issue also started early on with them also. I was NEVER offered medication for blood pressure instead i was told to lay on my side if it went down all was okay if not then i was put on modified bed rest..

This pregnancy I have a different dr, my old drs sold their practice and this is the dr that took it over. When i went for my 21 week appointment, like i said my BP was high, she didnt retake it or anything and wrote me a script for blood pressure medication. I went home researched the medication and decided not to take it, i didnt feel that based on one reading of high blood pressure i needed to take it, i took my bp every few days at the store and it was normal most the time, i had a few high reading but on average it was really good.I then went last week and she asked if i was taking my medication, i told her no and she was really upset and said she wanted me to go to another dr so that it is documented that im refusing treatment.. I was actually offended by her actions and the fact that she didnt want to listen to me, I’m not completely opposed to medication if it is needed, i just didnt feel that based on ONE high reading i needed medication, i told her I would rather try some diet changes and other things first, and she responded that at my age that will not work at all. I’m 25.. why would it not work? I just find it odd that she never retook it to double check, instead wanted to give me medication without first talking about alternatives.. Like I said I will take it if i have to, im just not sure if i do.. After i had my twins i was put on medication cause my BP would not go down and my heart rate was way to high.. the medication made me feel so horrible i was always about to faint.. I just cant imagine feeling that way being pregnant taking care of 2 three year olds..

Anyways, that got really long.. Have any of you taken blood pressure medication when pregnant? Did your dr try other things first? what is your view on this?

Please dont respond with "dr knows best" I’m sorry I do not feel that is always the case so please do not waste your time..

Also I am going to a MFM dr, who was the dr i also seen when i was pregnant with my twins, he is going to review my blood pressure issue and I also have a kidney problem (brought on by pregnancy) that was debilitating my last pregnancy and it is coming back.. they could be linked, which my current dr even told me but didnt say that until after she was mad about me not filling the prescription.
my BP when she gave me the script was 137/86 then my last appointment when she got mad it was 140/90.. however like i said i have been taking it and it has not been high like that.

Also my kidney issue has nothing to due with high blood pressure.. but could cause high blood pressure..

Thanks everyone for the input.. glad to see I was not totally out of line

My GF’s mom was diagnosed last week with aortic dissection type B. She was sebt to ER followed by admittance to hosital for 4 days. They just gave her blood pressure treatment and pain killers. They told her to go home two days ago but then she is still in pain. The pain comes every 4 hours right befroe she has to take her meds. It goes away after 4 hours then comes back again. Her BP rises and drops throughout the day with highest levels at when the pain comes back. How long will these periods of pain last? She would get fevers late at night accompanied by sharp pains and this is very worrysome. How long will these pain/fever episodes last?
thanks all for your help. since i cannot email you all in private due to your emails being hidden, please email me with help and answers so i can chat directly with you. my email is steven_zhao79@hotmail.com

I would appreciate it very much if any of you can help us on this matter. i would gladly do my best to help you back in return.

My husband just got his blood pressure back down to the normal rate. Before when his pressure was high he had no feelings for sex. Now, he just checked his BP and it is normal and he seems less tense. He is eatting more foods with less sodium and cholesterol. Since his bp is now normal, does that increase the sperm count?

I would think the answer is yes, but my MD wants to raise my BP meds. I have moderate sleep apnea, and just started a treatment program.

There’s a radio ad playing on local radio here in Los Angeles for Ameal BP, a blood pressure treatment. The announcer sounds amazingly like William Shatner. Is he the actor in the commercials?

I have been taking that second BP medication for 3 days and so far no change my readings are still high.

My cat is 13. He has slightly high BP. Otherwise healthy. Does anyone know of a alternative treatment? I’d rather not give him drugs.

Specifically, stage 1 hypertension. Please cite references. Thanks.
Actually, I exercise a lot–an hour a day of running. Doctor says that’s why my heart rate is so low–49BPM, and that that’s a "fit" indicator, but my BP is in the pre-hypertention/stage 1 area: 128/79 – 141/87. So, I have exercise, and pretty much, diet covered. I eat little to no meat, plenty of tofu and fatty fish, such as tuna and salmon, and at least 1 serving of fruits and vegetables daily.
Red Yeast Rice treats cholesterol, not high blood pressure.

if there are, How high most the bp be in order to notice these symptoms.

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant, during the duration of my pregnancy, my blood pressure has been around 150/90. Between weeks 18-26 it had settled down to 130/80, but this last week it rose back up to 150/90. I do have several back injuries (a fracture and a few ruptured discs), which may cause the high blood pressure, I just don’t understand why I haven’t been put on any bp medication. Does anyone know what the case may be?

I had a health screening last friday and because I have a big upper arm the nurse used a large cuff and my BP was scarily high (140/104). Today I got it measured at a blood pressure kiosk with a "normal" sized cuff and it was better (123/84).

I know both readings are high but I’m trying to track it to help decided if I want to take medication or not. I’m already trying to lose weight which I know will bring it down.

I am 20 week pregnant and this morning the nurse told me that I have high blood pressure and she asked me why and I could not give her an answere cause I have no Idea what causes high blood pressure. I also have never actually had a blood pressure problem? So is it bad to have high BP? Please Im desprate to know?

My husband has been on Lisinopril for a couple of years. They cut him down to 1/2 a dose after he suffered dry cough, loss of Libido and joint pain. We have his BP under control with supplements of Omega 3, flax oil, EPA, TMG etc. We hope that he will come off of the meds very soon. My question is, how soon should the side effects subside?

I have slightly high blood pressure and I am trying to measure it at home. My wife bought me a wristech wrist bp monitor but I’m not sure where to position my wrist to get an accurate reading.
