Ive smoked for going on 9 yrs. Im 22.I already know smoking is bad for me. I dont want any bullshit answers, serious answers only please. Ive tried "Quit Line Iowa". Ive tried cold turkey. Ive stopped when I got really sick but cant seem to beak the cycle. Please again, serious answers only. Im not here to be bashed.
I also was prescribed welbutrin, but makes me feel flighty.
I smoke cigarettes (nothing else). I asked my 10 year old what he wanted for Christmas this year and he told me the only thing he really wants is for me to quit (bless his heart). Now, before I go talk to my doctor I just wanted to know what has worked for others who have quit smoking. Also before you blast me for smoking in the first place, yes I was a stupid 16 year old who wanted to look "cool" but got hooked, and no I’m not proud of it. And no, I don’t smoke around my kids either, I smoke out side.
And yes this is a serious question and yes I know it’s in the wrong section, but the M&D people are the only ones I would actually listen to for advice.
My ‘normal’ blood pressure is something like 172/140.
I am aware that I have hypertension, thank you.
I am 22, a 1 pack per day smoker. I do not drink coffee/energy drinks; I am 5′11" and 175lbs; which means I have a normal weight.
The hypertension is the onset of the treatment of my aortic carnation; in which a patch was sewn onto my aorta in order to give it a proper size; this was done 14 years ago.
My big question? Am I going to die at 50???
I smoke about a pack a day and I know I need to quit. I want to quit, I’m tired of feeding my habit and it’s getting more and more expensive. I’ve tried to quit a few times in the past and failed. For those of you who have successfully stopped smoking, how did you do it? How do you stay smoke-free? What are your tips and suggestions on the first step in the process?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Monica, you hit on my biggest problem, boredom. I smoke most when I’m bored or stressed.
Thanks to the people who offered real answers.
If it were as easy as just not smoking, I’d have done it by now. I hope you guys don’t work with the public.
Which part of "I’m trying to quit smoking" can be taken as please preach to me? I realize this isn’t a medical help line, but for the love of Pete, leave your preaching out of questions like this one. It has nothing to do with religion. Just so you know, I’ve asked Yahoo to remove your sermon.
Well pardon the holy hell out of me for not wanting a sermon in response to a question that doesn’t require one. This is not a religious issue, it’s a health issue. I keep my religion and my health separate. I also don’t like people following me around Yahoo preaching to me.
I’ve been taking high blood pressure medication for about 4 months. My blood pressure has come back down to normal on the medications, but I still hear the "thumping" of my heartbeat in my ears. Does anyone else have this problem? Hoping it’s not just me… my doctor doesn’t think it’s a big deal, but I was just curious to see if anyone else has experienced it.
