What are the best tolerated blood pressure medications without side effects?
For the past month my blood pressure has been high. My doctor put me on diltia XT and Diovan. After a week they are making me feel strange, heavy chested, cold and just plain lousy. Has anyone had anything different that they have tolerated better that I can ask my doctor about? Thanks.

It would be unusual to be put on two blood pressure medications at the same time if you had none before. You are currently taking an Diovan which is an ARB (angiotensin receptor blocker) and diltia XT which is a calcium channel blocker (CCB). Usually people have problems with families of drugs, not individual drugs within a family. I wouldn’t suggest using an ACE inhibitor since they are similar to ARB’s. You could ask for hydrochlorothiazide HCTZ which is an old school diuretic BP med but works well. You could also try a beta blocker like metoprolol. Either the CCB or the ARB is causing you problems. I would suspect the CCB rather than the ARB. Talk to your doctor about dropping one of your meds and adding in a different family. Sometimes diet and exercise allows a person to drop down to one medication rather than two!
