Dizziness, nausea, headache, fatigue and constipation may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position.
To prevent constipation, maintain a diet adequate in fiber, drink plenty of water, and exercise. If you become constipated while using this drug, consult your pharmacist for help in selecting a stool softener.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: swelling of the ankles/feet, shortness of breath, persistent fatigue, fast/irregular/very slow heartbeat, unusual dreams, mental/mood changes, decreased sexual ability/desire, fainting.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: severe abdominal pain, dark urine, severe nausea/vomiting, severe constipation, yellowing of the eyes/skin, new or worsening chest pain, sudden dizziness/fainting, vision changes, severe/persistent nausea, seizures, confusion, weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Headache
Drowsiness
Edema (swelling)
Nausea
Constipation
Other side effects are:
Dizziness
Palpitations (heart flutter-like feelings)
Diaherra
Gastric upset
Impotence
Nocturia (urinating at night)
Rash
• If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking verapamil and contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
· an unusually fast or slow heartbeat;
· shortness of breath (heart failure);
· fainting;
· abnormal behavior or psychosis;
· jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
· swelling of the legs or ankles.
• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take verapamil and talk to your doctor if you experience
· unusual headache, fatigue, or tiredness;
· insomnia or trouble sleeping;
· vivid dreams;
· hair loss;
· nausea or diarrhea; or
· increased urination.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
