What has caused my change in blood pressure from 84/60 to 135/86?
I am a young adult female. 6 months ago I went on birth control pills for the first time, and at that time my blood pressure was 84/60. I just visited a doctor for treatment of a UTI and now my blood pressure is 135/86. I think this is abnormal for me…could the infection have elevated it? The only other thing that has changed is a bit more stress from school for me now.

actually pain and anxiety over your uti could elavate your blood pressure .but it always good to have your primary pyhscian to keep a regulated check on the matter and if there is a problem there is medicine that can make it alright dont stress because it makes it worse…..
Stress is often a big factor in rising blood pressure, however so is a bad diet. Have you been eating lots of bad food? Food high in fat and sugar? Then again, if I akm not mistaken birth control pills have been known to raise blood pressure. Make sure you see your doctor soon and tell him about this. High blood pressure brings many health risks and should be avoided at all costs.
Good luck.
Never take the advice of a chat thing to act as a place to get professional advice that only your doctor can give you.
Anything that stresses out your system whether it be stress itself or an infection is going to elevate your BP. Also your BP changes all day long.
You can be totally relaxed and your BP can be elevated and you can be totally stressed out and it will be low. It all depends on your situation.
But I would consult your doctor about it anyways. Go talk to him and he will help ease your tension over it.
I would say your BP indeed has risen due to the infection, stress from school and going on the pill. Did your doctor not say anything to you about the change in BP? Did you ask him about it? He should know more than some of us on Yahoo!
Your doctor should have been monitoring your BP before and after you going on the pill as some women have adverse effects on BP from the pill.
I say this with certainty as my gf is in this situation and is also a nurse, so I hear alll about it.
If your still worried, I would make another appointment with your doc and get a couple free BP tests from those machines you see in stores like WalMart.
Don’t stress and best of luck!
Consult your doctor. One potential side effect of the Pill is high blood pressure. See if your current medication is the cause, if so, your doctor may prescribe a different one.
