What is the best method used to stop smoking?
I have been a smoker for many years. I stopped cold turkey one time and I was smoke free for a year. Now that I have started again, It is so much harder to stop!

my friend gradually cut back,
she watched how much she was smoking (which was a pack a day) and then started taking cigs out of the pack in the morning.
to explain myself abit more:
-she would limit herself to 1 pack a day. but in the morning, right when she opened the pack. She’d take 2 cigs out of the pack and toss them.
-when she got accustomed to that, and she was going on 1 pack minus 2 cigs, she started taking out 2 more in the morning, for a total of 4 cigs taken out of the pack each morning.
-when that is normal she started taking out 6, then 8, ect… until she didn’t need them any more.
she had a really hard time doing the "cold turkey" thing, because she used cigs to deal with stress and she works in a very stressfull environment. this helped her learn to deal with the stress in a different way.
try getting addicted to other stuff instead of cigs try buying alot of your favorite candy,food,etc. and when you go to the store and you a craving for cigs. think which would you want more the candy or that cig. hope i helped.

I smoked for many years too and I stopped by using the patches. Whatever method, a craving will go if you smoke or don’t smoke. get plenty of support and go for it. You can do it. I am 7 months stopped now
Self control and determination
Cold Turkey is the way to go. I am alergic to the patch, the gum is horrible, there is no reason to have your ears stapled or find yourself a hipnotist either. The truth is… if you want to quit then do it cold turkey and you will be able to because it is what you want. You can buy a nicotine gel that you rub into your hands if the craveings get real bad, but I found that I was useing more and more of it. So, if you keep one packet in your purse just to get you through that rough part of the day you are not doing bad. I think that most of quitting is psychological anyway, so all of the ointments, salves, and other hooey that they have come up with to help you quit is really just something to make people think that it is not cold turkey. Also, dont go for the ciggs. that have you quit in "stepps" where they continue to remove the nicotine until there is none… they taist grose, and I have seen it make people go back to smoking two fold.
