What is the best way to stop smoking?
My husband and I have set February 3rd as our quit date. I know how hard it is, I’ve tried to quit several times before. We’re going to be trying to help with the cravings with the patches and lots of gum or suckers. Does anyone have any other suggestions that could help. Thanks!
Thanks for all your answers…we are foing great. It’s been 3 1/2 days and it hasn’t been so hard. We’ve had cravings but they don’t last very long. My nicotene patch fell off yesterday and I left it off for about 8 hours before I showered and put on a new one and things have been fine. I would highly recommend the Nicoderm CQ. We have had very few withdraw symptoms and we’re breaking the habits of "thoose times when you want a cigarette" pretty easily. It’s nice, we still find ourselves going into our pocket or purse to get a cigarette whenever we forget, but then it’s like wait I quit smoking. I think it’s going to work this time. Thank you for all the answers and congratulations to those who have stopped smoking in the past and to all you trying to quit or wanting to YOU CAN. I have never went this long without a cigarette and I never believed I could do it. I did though and you can too.

I have been seeing commercials for COMMIT and it looks like it might work. I have never smoked so I can’t feel your pain. I wish you and your husband the best of luck. Your lungs will love you to and you will live a longer life with each other. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and once you and your husband quit, you will hate the smell of it too. Good luck and stick together to help each other. Go for walks with each other to keep your mind off of things.
"cold turkey"
I’d like to hear suggestions too pls…
i will tell you this they say not to quit cold turkey but that is the best thing i have ever done was quit cold turkey.. as long as u dont wake up and smoke that morning cigarette you will be ok just say this will be my last pack and make it ur last pack
not to smoke…….duh
I tried several times, too, before I finally quit almost ten years ago. Went cold turkey from smoking 20-30 a day. Too me, chewing gum etc is only prolonging the pain. My best tip is to put the money you don’t spend on cigarettes in a jar – see how it grows! Soon you can buy yourself a cruise, a Persian carpet or anything else you desire…
There is a new drug called Chantix. You have to get your doctor to give you the prescription. My husband stopped smoking in less than a month. I know several other people who have had great success with Chantix as well.
I used a technique called NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), that was offered to me by a friend. It was amazing i went from smoking 40+ a day to none at all in the space of an hour and a half. I was dead sceptical and even in the session i was giggling and saying what a load of rubbish, but it worked!!!
Good Luck! I know how hard it can be!

First of all you have to really have your mind set that you are going to quit or it isn’t going to happen. There are some alternatives that are supposed to work if you really have your mind set. Licorice – eating it is supposed to curb your "appetite" for a cigarette or make it taste terrible when you light one up. Also peppermint, whether eating a peppermint candy or drinking peppermint tea is also supposed to work. I have tried both and it does work as cigarette smoking tastes terrible, but as my mind was only half-hearted it didn’t work because I would stop doing either so I could enjoy a cigarette. Good Luck!
