Its about dealing with "addiction". Some folks can merely throw the cigs out and never use them again, but the addictive personality remains. They cling onto something else. Cigarettes are your choice in this matter, and are a symbol of covering up something you feel you cannot control. Get with a professional; contact the United Way because they can connect you to resources.
Hi, i smoked for thirty years and never thought i would stop i enjoyed it too much, but i started being unwell and had to use aninhaler more and more, and then i got my grandchildren and that was my deciding points. so I read Books and watched hynosis dvd.s none of which helped but what i did gain from them was it was all about changing your brain pattern..in otherwords its an awful habbit and after 35 years it has forged a pattern in my brain, and this needed to be changed. So i was a 10-20 a day person on normal stregth cigarettes. i hated menthol cigarettes, so that would be what i would now smoke. So i brought menthol cigarettes, in my mind i had now stopped smoking and the menthols would be like a substitue just to break the craving for my normal cigarettes…i hated them but was pleased to still be going through the motions, unfortunately after a month i was then smoking 10 a day or more of these!! so in my mind i had stopped craving the nicotine in the original ones, broke that habbit, so now i needed to get rid of the pattern of smoking the menthol ones although the nicotine level was lower in the menthols, , so i went to the health food shop and brought their herbal menthol cigarettes totally nicotine free!! They tasted disgusting, but after a couple of days i was just so pleased to be snoking as such, still going through the motions, and although i wanted a normal cigarette now and again, i did not give in , but had a herbal one instead, i kept this up for another month, until i realized i was not craving for nicotine any more, so i stopped smoking them also, what was the point, all my neighbours thought i was smoking drugs!! apparently that is what they smelt like. but it did work, give it a try, you feel as if you are still smoking but you know you are weaning your self off, Patches are full of neat nicotine, and the goverment get all the revenue from them as well as cigarette,!! and why stop smoking by poisoning yourself further, try it this way it worked for me. good luck xx
Have you heard of the new electronic cigarettes? There was a story about them on Yahoo about a week ago. I’ve been smoking for 30 years and have tried everything to quit smoking without any success. I will be ordering my electronic cigarette starter package this week and I’m very excited about it. They simulate a real cigarette which none of the other quit smoking aids have done. They come with a rechargeable battery, when you inhale, you get a burst of nicotine for that craving and it actually looks like you’re blowing out smoke but it’s a water vapor mist. The tip of the cigarette even illuminates. So you get the nicotine you crave, the hand and mouth fixation is covered and exhaling the vapor mist looks like smoke.
The beauty of it is you still get all the stuff you crave from smoking without all the negative side effects or harmful additives found in tobacco. The starter kit comes with the electronic cigarette, battery, and five nicotine cartridges. Each cartridge is supposed to be equal to 1-2 packs of cigarettes. The kit is $79 and the cartridge refills are around $13 for a pack of five. And there is a 30-day money back guarantee so you have nothing to lose. I will be ordering from the site below.
Here are some methods that have helped my family. Some seem to work more than others, but they do provide good results.
Chewing gum: The chewing gum contains a small amount of nicotine. This gum serves two purposes: it provides oral stimulation, which is a replacement for what is provided by smoking cigarettes and it provides nicotine, which is the primary chemical that smokers are addicted to.
The cigarette stick: This is somewhat like a cigarette, and allows a smoker to inhale a small amount of nicotine but without all of the other chemicals that are in cigarettes. This form of delivery results in less psychological dependence.
Cold turkey: quitting cold turkey is where the smoker just stops smoking completely and immediately. It requires a tremendous amount of will power and often doesn’t "stick" unless combined with behavioral therapy.
The patch: similar to nicotine gum, the patch releases a regular amount of nicotine into the body. As time goes on, the amount of nicotine released gets less and less, until eventually there is little dependence on nicotine. It doesn’t however address the active part of smoking that is the oral stimulation.
Let me know if any of this information was helpful!
Ween yourself off is the best. Cold turkey will just drive you back to smoking, because it will drive you crazy so fast, you’ll want one, and you’re hooked again. Just start off with a number, and work your way down each week until you hit zero.
