You can try but it’s her body and she’s going to do what she wants to do no matter what you tell her.
It’s also bad to quit cold turkey, it’s in hers & the baby’s best interests if she cuts down. Her going through withdrawal causes stress which is worse than smoking itself.
Tell her to stop smoking.
I’m concerned about your baby’s health,since you aren’t.
I would be real tough on her.
Let her know about the effects she is giving her baby by smoking. But you telling her to stop isnt going to make her stop. She will have to want to do it on her own.
Show her the consecuences. je je. Specially if you found a live example.
Tell her that if she doesn’t stop, her baby will suffer extreme damage and probably die before it’s even born.
Really there is no nice way to tell her without getting her upset at you. Besides that, im sure her own OB has already advised her that she needs to stop smoking for the health of her baby.
Maybe you could get her to cut back for the baby if she will not quit cold turkey.
Trust me, there is NO easy way. One coworker of mine just kept smoking through her whole pregnancy because her doctor actually told her (well, so she said) that she’d cause more stress to the baby with nicotine withdrawals.
It does depend on how far along she is, too. Approach it gently and say, I look forward to meeting your wonderful little baby. Then kind of bring up the fact that she’s still smoking and say that you’d hate for anything bad to happen to either one of them. There’s only so much you can do. Only she can find the will to quit.
By saying that "the baby has a higher probability of birth defects, lower immunity, alergies and other complications…. Please give the baby the best chance of growing up healthy!"
Peace!
Sorry if I’m crude, but here goes:
"If you’re too much of a moron to stop smoking, your baby could be at risk for all sorts of medical problems. Not to mention that condition… what’s it called again… Oh yeah, LUNG CANCER, that you yourself may get if you don’t give those things up."
Remember, stress the "moron" part. It might sound cruel, but at the same time, it’ll probably work. Also, look up some of those aforementioned medical problems and randomly insert the names inside that statement. The bigger and harder to pronounce they are, the scarier they sound and the more they will work.
stop or die
Take her to visit a facility that provides care for the developmentally disabled. That should provide a message.
Take her to a hospital that deals with drug and nicotine addicted babies who are going through withdraws. It’s a tough way to get a point across, but some people will not learn without proof that there are real effects from what they do. It isn’t just about her anymore.
ask her whats more important….cigaretters or a healthy baby. maybe she’ll get it.
PUTHE EFFING PACK DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UR GONNA KILL BABY JR. SOAB! I’d actually do that, too, cuz I’m karazy…….
Normally you can take a tour of a hospital while you are pregnant. Even if she can not choose, have her schedule one just to get a glimpse of what it will be like having the baby, etc. Ask ahead of time if you can stop by the NICU nursery so she can see the babies hooked up to respirators and machines, etc. While you are there mention somehow that this is what happens to the babies who had mothers that smoked.
(Of course it may or may not be true, but she doesn’t need to know that.) Seeing it up close is much much different than constantly telling her that she needs to quit.
You really need to provide her with the facts. Your opinion is not going to be as effective as the facts. Call your ob/gyn office and tell them the situation, and see what information they can provide. Get some good info off of the internet. I love the previous idea of touring the hospital and making sure you see the NICU. This was a part of the hospital tour I went on. You need to go to a hospital with a NICU (they all do not have them. Smaller hospitals will send more critical babies to other hosptals. Call and make sure the hospital you visit has one!).
Sorry to mention this to some of you out there who smoked while pregnant: just because your lyoung children seem fine now, it doesn’t mean that the chemicals you inhaled did not affect them. Learning problems sometimes do not show up until the third grade, or sometimes even later. So, keep your eyes peeled for your child having learning problems later in life, particularly when school gets more demanding, in the third or fourth grade.
