Find yourself something to do with your hands. Learn to knit, crochet, juggle even. Before you start spend a week or so learning where your "habits" are and change them. If you smoke when you wake up, don’t. If you smoke in your car, don’t. Notice those habit areas and make sure you have something else to do during those times.
to stop cold-turkey, duh! answered your own question!
Don’t light the cold turkey…don’t even put it in your mouth.
I had only been smoking for about a year when the doctor found tumors in my thyroid. It turned out the tumors weren’t cancerous and I hadn’t caused them, but the moment I saw the tumor on the sonogram screen changed my life. I gave it up cold turkey. Every time I thought about take out a cig to relieve stress, I pulled out a little photo that shows the tumors that we found. I carry that picture around with me and it’s really helped me.I would highly suggest going online and finding pictures of tumors and carrying them around with you. Look at them when you think you need a light.
And gind another habit. Whenever you want a light, chew a stick of gum or chow down on some sunflower seeds (chewing the shell away can relieve tension too). Give yourself a reward – like a donut or small nap – every day you go without smoking. It’s really difficult – but totally worth it! Good luck!
Read Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Quit Smoking. It helped my girlfriend and my parents quit, and my Dad had been smoking for almost 40 years.
I know, reading a book doesn’t sound helpful, but the book is magic! I swear to you that it works.
Idid this 4 yrs ago, after 27 years of smoking–so it IS doable.
First, be motivated, and set a goal or reason. It may be as simple as getting a locked bank, and stashing your cig money in it!
Make sure you have plenty of distractions. Gum, hard candy, pieces of plastic straw to chew and "inhale", a rubber band on your wrist to snap yourself when you have a craving, all of these are good tools to help you wait that craving out.
And remember, the PHYSICAL addiction is over in 5 days–it’s the mental addiction you’ll be fighting after that. Lean on your non-smoking family & friends, they want you to succeed, too.
Good luck, my friend–you CAN DO IT!
don’t over cook it. then it won’t smoke? run it under cold water to keep it from smoking further just say NO ? and don’t do it? mind over matter? YOU TURKEY smile
