When do you take your blood pressure medication?
I have been taking amlodipine and HCT for about 3 months now. My doctor highly recommended me to take it in the morning. He knows that it makes me drowsy; but, he insists that if I take it in the morning, I will be able to urinate more frequently as needed.
But, I love taking it at night because it helps me to rest better at night. When do you all take your blood pressure medication? Just curious. And share what kind you take as well! I appreciate you all.

Well, I take a Beta Blocker, Toprol, in the morning and and ace inhibitor, Altace, in the evening.
The timing of when I took them became quite an issue when I was in Cardiac Rehab. On a couple of occasions, my body basically shut down on the way to work from Cardiac rehab. I’m talking indescribable tiredness. I just pulled over and laid the seat down and rested. The alarm bells seemed to go off at Cardiac Rehab. They ended up changing my medication time from 7:30 to 10:30 and it never happened again.
You might try taking the medication a little later after you have gotten up and moving a while.
i take toprol xl 100mg in the morning and i feel fine, if you have to go see a doctor in the morning and they see that your blood pressure is high, the first thing they will ask is if you ate and took your pressure pills this morning,so this is the best time to take them in the morning!
Good Question.
I take MyCardis HCT for my BP problems. It works pretty well.
One thing I remember when I first started taking Blood Pressure medication, when you BP gets down to normal, your body being used to the higher BP does seem to become a little more tired. Once I got used to the lower numbers, my body reacted to it, and I feel much better at the lower numbers.
I would suggest you continue taking it in the morning, and try to get used to it. I suspect eventually you will get past the tired stage and feel just great.
One reason for this is the fact that when you are asleep your Blood Pressure is naturally lower. If you take the medication just prior to bedtime you do not really get the benefit of lower blood pressure later in the day when you may need it.
Medication begins to wear off just prior to time to take it again. If you take it in the morning, you get the benefit of lower blood pressure all day long, and the natural benefit of lower blood pressure when sleeping. If you take it in the evening, your blood pressure may begin to rise in the afternoon or evening and not be as effective as it could be for you.
I take a beta blocker (Metoprolol) morning and bedtime.
I wonder if you could split your meds and take the diuretic in the morning and the other drug at night…I did not read anything that says you cannot take the Amlodipine at night if it suits you better. I found it interesting that one of the side effects of Amlodipine is edema and you take a diuretic…I wonder if you may want to discuss this with your doctor/cardio and see if you can try a different medication without this side effect or a combined pill something like Coversyl plus or whatever the USA equivalent is. Its worth an ask.
