Wondering about my friends higher-than-normal heart-rate when she exersises?
My friend (female, age 54), when she gets on a treadmill or elliptical trainer etc) has her heart rate very quickly go up to a rather high percentage of her maximum heart rate. According to the formula of 220 – AGE = MAX HEART RATE, her heart should not ever go faster than 166. Her heart rate routinely gets up around 160 and it gets up there very quickly with not a lot of effort. Her blood pressure is usually fairly low, but she does have high cholesterol and is taking meds for that as well as some thyroid medication. Should I be worried about her?

You should probably get her to go to the doctor. However when you get healthier your body will adapt a stronger heart and you will notice your resting raet will go down as well as when you exercise. When i started (im 19) my pulse would get near 200 beats a minute and resting would be around 100-110. Now in my 4th month of exercising my resting rate goes between 50-60 beats a minute and 130-150 while exercising.
